Word of the Day: thirst person, sticker paralysis, affixation remorse

22 September, 2009 (13:22) | Uncategorized | By: Killer

Merriam’s word today was just to boring: “enhance”

So to enhance your experience today, I’ve gone down to the Urban Dictionary to see what else I could dig up…

And there are a few good ones to share today:

  • Thirst person: The grammatical voice in which a writer starts writing about someone else, but ends writing about herself. The best part is the example sentence:

“So, my friend hooked up with this girl, and he didn’t use protection, and now he says it hurts when he pees. Anyway, do you think I should go to the doctor?”

  • Sticker Paralysis: The inability to apply a really cool sticker for lack of an appropriate place stick it. the sticker ends up in a drawer for a few years. This is a way to avoid “affixation remorse.”
  • Affixation Remorse: The feeling that a really cool sticker was wasted because it was used in the wrong place.

Neither of these conditions are likely to happen to children or older adults. It’s more prevalent among twenty or thirty-somethings who haven’t let go of youth but are too grown up to give a damn about a sticker.
