Hi, thank you for the daily job postings. I am curious, though, about Guru.com. Do you have experience obtaining witing jobs though Guru.com? I’ve been a registered writer with them for some time, but have not yet bid on any work. Oftentimes it looks like it won’t pay much, but that’s just my initial impression.
So, what experience do you have with them?
Hi, Sherry. Nice to hear from you again. I have had excellent success with Guru. They have no affiliate program so you know I’m giving it to you straight…
I have tried Scriptlance, Elance, iFreelance and others. Elance is the only one other than Guru I think that is worth any effort at all. Guru jobs pay far more than Elance. With Elance, I barely made back my membership fees. With Guru, I earned back triple. Challenge yourself to look there every day and apply for the ten free jobs you get in a month. The worst that could happen is you get selected, decide you don’t like the pay and move on…
The membership is cheaper and more clients have found me through Guru than any other profile. Guru is the only site I know that lets you link to your own direct URL. You don’t have to work through them (although it’s much safer if you use their safepay escrow service).
I think the jobs offer a wide range of pay. Posts are often upfront about the pay. They’ll tell you they want to pay $1 article if that’s the case. But those postings are few. Those kind of jobs are more common on Scriptlance. I’ve seen reasonable pay on many jobs at Guru, but I wouldn’t say it’s at the seasoned professional level for the majority of listings. Maybe 10-20% offer a professional level of pay.
When I was taking 5 cents a word, most of my clients came from there. I developed some excellent long term relationships with several clients. I will never regret using them and I still apply for jobs here and there. These days my plate is so full of work, I haven’t the time. I can’t promise how successful you will be, but it sure was an excellent way for me to get my name out there and make some money!
