I ran across this ad on craigslist while search for jobs…..
Hi, thanks for reading this. I am looking for editorial work but am having a difficult time of it—I would really appreciate any helpful suggestions. I moved to NY two years ago for art school and graduated this May; before this I was an editor in Boston; I have 5+ years of experience proofreading, copyediting, and editing. My question is this: do you have any suggestions as to where or how I could go about finding freelance proofreading, copyediting, or editorial work? I am very open, be it legal/business, news/journalism, fiction/non-fiction, anything. Any responses/suggestions/advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
I think there may be a lot of you out there, struggling to make a career when times are hard and don’t know where to begin. I hope I can help you guys out. I wrote back to this gentlemen and thought it explains pretty well the basic steps needed to start writing online. Thought it might help you too. Good luck!
Hi, I was laid off in September and started writing online and have been doing well for myself. I started a blog to show others how to do it… www.killfive.com.
I’m not as far along as I would like to be on that site, but you will be able to find daily job listings there.
I have written a few articles on where you can get started writing online. Once you develop a portfolio of work, you need to create a profile site to display your portfolio and resume. If you have been writing on paper, then it may be best to scan your work into the computer and post as samples for now.
Then you can start finding freelance work. The step after that is to go through online ads. The best pay is found there. I have many of them listed at killfive.com.
Along the way, you have to learn about search engines and how to get your work found. This is where internet marketing comes into play. You really need to learn it to be successful online. It does not hurt to know a little code either…
That’s how I did it, anyway. Here are a few links that I hope are helpful to you!
